Education Professions

Students entering the Education Professions program at the EACC should have an interest in working with children, lesson planning, and teaching elementary school, middle school or high school.
Successful students will demonstrate a high level of aptitude in effective communication, collaboration and professionalism.

Develop Your Skills
Students in the Education Professions program learn the fundamentals of being a teacher, meeting the individual needs of learners, lesson planning, preparing and managing a classroom, and utilizing research based instructional and assessment strategies.
Through project-based learning, Education Professions students will have the opportunity to take on a variety of real-world education experiences in collaboration with their instructor and classmates.
Through work-based learning, Education Professions students will have the opportunity to explore the various responsibilities of being a teacher through internships at local elementary schools or middle schools. Students will assist classroom teachers with implementing lessons, working with small groups of children, applying classroom management plans and participating in school-wide activities.
Year One Curriculum
- Provides the foundation for employment in education and related careers and prepares students for study in higher education
- An active learning approach that utilizes higher order thinking, communication, leadership, and management processes is recommended in order to integrate suggested topics into the study of education and related careers
- The course of study includes, but is not limited to: the teaching profession, the learner and the learning process, planning instruction, learning environment, and instructional and assessment strategies
- Exploratory field experiences in classroom settings and career portfolios are required components
- A standards-based plan guides the students’ field experiences
- Juniors only with two year program commitment
Year Two Curriculum
- The course of study includes, but is not limited to: the teaching profession, the learner and the learning process, planning instruction, learning environment, and instructional and assessment strategies
- Extensive field experiences in one or more classroom settings, resumes, and career portfolios are required components. A standards-based plan guides the students’ field experiences.
- Students are monitored in their field experiences by the Education Professions II teacher. Articulation with post-secondary programs is encouraged.

Make Your Mark
Students completing the Education Professions program at the EACC will be prepared and have the required knowledge for the next step in their career journey, whether it’s college or going directly into the career field.
During their two years at the EACC, Education Professions students will have the opportunity to earn 14 college credits through dual enrollment at Ivy Tech Community College, at no charge to the student/family, by simply successfully completing the EACC program.
Students who complete the program will have the opportunity to test for ParaPro certification to become a certified Paraprofessional.
Education Professions students can earn 30 college credits through dual enrollment at Ivy Tech Community College to receive an Elementary Education Technical Certificate by additionally completing dual enrollment courses ENG 111, MATH 123, COMM101, BIO101, HIST101, and POLS 101/ECON 101 at their home school or the EACC.
Education Professions students may also pursue earning 60 college credits through dual enrollment at Ivy Tech Community College to receive an Associate of Science in Elementary Education degree from Ivy Tech Community College.
Industry Certifications
Students who complete the program will have the opportunity to test for ParaPro certification to become a certified Paraprofessional.
Education Professions students can earn 30 college credits through dual enrollment at Ivy Tech Community College to receive an Elementary Education Technical Certificate, at no charge to the student/family, by additionally completing dual enrollment courses ENG 111, MATH 123, and four general education core courses (listed on Ivy Tech Community College's Technical Certificate Completion Guide) either through their home high school or the EACC.
Education Professions students may also pursue earning 60 college credits through dual enrollment at Ivy Tech Community College to receive an Associate of Science in Elementary Education degree from Ivy Tech Community College.
Dual Credit Offerings
Earn up to 14 college credits and early college certificate through Ivy Tech Community College. College coursework is embedded into EACC curriculum.
