Students entering the Barbering program at the EACC should have an interest in serving individuals with short hair, including cutting, styling, and shaving.

Successful students will demonstrate a high level of aptitude in creativity, time management, organization, envisioning an outcome and making it happen, and excellent customer service skills.

Develop Your Skills

Students in the Barbering program learn advanced skills in shaving, hair cutting, styling, facials and facial hair care, chemistry of hair coloring, and chemical texturizing. Students will also study anatomy and physiology as it applies to barbering.

Through service and project-based learning, Barbering students will have the opportunity to practice their skills by working in collaboration with their instructor and classmates.

Through work-based learning, Barbering students may have the opportunity to serve clients at Eden Barber Academy.

Year One Curriculum

Students focus particularly on barbering styles and techniques.
Students will learn about the history and geography of barbering.
Students will develop advanced skills in shaving, hair cutting, styling, facials and facial hair care, hair coloring, and chemical texturizing.
Students will also study anatomy and physiology as it applies to barbering.
Upon completion of the course requirements, the students will be able to perform basic manipulative skills including haircutting, hairstyling, chemical texturizing, shaving, treatment of the skin and scalp, salon management, license laws, sanitation and retain knowledge relating to the history of barbering.
Successful completion of the course requires at least 375 Barbering studio hours.

Year Two Curriculum

Students completing the Barbering program at the EACC will be prepared to operate as an independent barber, open their own shop, or operate as a barber affiliated with a salon.

During their time at the EACC, Barbering students will have the opportunity to perform over 750 total hours of hands-on salon work, first on mannequins, and then on actual clients. Additionally, Barbering students who complete the requirements will have the opportunity to take the Indiana State Board of Cosmetology and Barber Examiners (1500), the industry standard for barbering certification.
