Students entering the Cardiology/EMT program at the EACC should have an interest in Prehospital Care, Cardiology, Phlebotomy and/or Nursing.
Successful students will demonstrate a high level of aptitude in science and be skilled at critical thinking and communication.

Develop Your Skills
Students in the Cardiology program learn the fundamentals of the healthcare field, including, emergency care, patient assessment, vital signs and many other patient related skills.
Through project-based learning, Cardiology students will have the opportunity to take on a variety of real-world healthcare simulations in collaboration with their instructor and classmates.
Through work-based learning, Cardiology students may have the opportunity to complete a job shadow at a local healthcare facility or ambulance service.
Year One Curriculum
- Students will develop an individualized early college plan as they are introduced to the healthcare system
- Further in-depth studies of Medical Terminology and Anatomy and Physiology will also be undertaken
- Students will take a brief look at emergency medical services in the Emergency Medical Responder course
- Successful completion of the above will result in 12 college credits
- Juniors only with two year program commitment
- Prerequisite: MUST have 4 semesters of high school completed, have a minimum GPA of 2.6 AND be on the Core 40 Diploma track; OR have passed a standardized test with one of the following scores:

Year Two Curriculum
- Students will focus on job specific skills while finishing their Ivy Tech Technical certificates as they study Medical Law and Ethics, Behavioral Medicine and a certification focus of their choice
- Students will have the opportunity to obtain certifications in Phlebotomy, EKG, EMT, and Electronic Medical Records
- Successful completion can result in 6-16+ college credits.

Make Your Mark
Students completing the Cardiology program at the EACC will be prepared and have the required knowledge for the next step in their career journey, whether it’s college or directly into the career field.
During their first year at the EACC, Cardiology students will have the opportunity to earn 25+ college credits through dual enrollment at Ivy Tech Community College, at no charge to the student/family and by simply successfully completing the EACC program.
Students who complete the program will have the opportunity to test for CPR, Dementia Care, and Emergency Medical Service (EMR) certifications.
Additionally, students who return for the second year and complete additional Ivy Tech courses such as ENG 111 (College English) and MATH 123 (Quantitative Reasoning) either through their home high school, EACC, or Ivy Tech can earn an AAS Healthcare Specialist Clinical Support, TC Healthcare Specialist, CT Electrocardiography Technician, CT Phlebotomy Technician and CT EMT certificate from Ivy Tech Community College.
Industry Certifications
Students who complete the program will have the opportunity to test for CPR, Dementia Care, and Emergency Medical Service (EMR) certifications.

Dual Credit Offerings
Earn up to 29 college credits and early college certificate through Ivy Tech Community College. College coursework is embedded into EACC curriculum.
