Develop Your Skills

Students in the Software Development program are introduced to software development through hands-on coding projects, learning how to create websites, manage databases, and solve real-world problems using tools like Python and cloud technology. Along the way, they’ll build important skills in programming, web development, and software design.

Through service and project-based learning, Software Development students will have the opportunity to take on a variety of real-world development work in collaboration with their instructor and classmates.

Through work-based learning, Software Development students may have the opportunity to complete a semester-long or school-year long internship at a local business.

Year One Curriculum

Explore trends in computing and how computers are used in various settings.
Learn about operating systems, database technology, cybersecurity, and cloud computing.
Develop basic programming skills, including scripting, algorithms, and logic development.
Understand the life cycle of information systems, components, and flow of information within organizations.
Introduction to cybersecurity and the ethics of technology use.
Gain foundational skills in creating websites using HTML and CSS.
Learn the principles of database design, normalization, and development.
Introduction to Structured Query Language (SQL) for managing data.
Understand key concepts like data warehousing, data mining, and Big Data.
Learn programming concepts and languages, including algorithms and software development practices.
Introduction to different types of programming environments such as real-time processing and web applications.
Develop and test working programs using various programming languages in an integrated system.
Understand the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and concepts of object-oriented programming.

Year Two Curriculum

Apply object-oriented programming (OOP) concepts such as inheritance, methods, and attributes.
Develop graphical user interfaces (GUIs) and web applications using client-side and server-side scripting tools (JavaScript, PHP).
Build advanced applications integrating database functionality and security features.
Experience with debugging, testing, and documenting software applications in an Integrated Development Environment (IDE).
Gain hands-on experience in real-world software development settings.
Work on projects involving programming, web development, or database management.
Collaborate with industry professionals and apply classroom knowledge to solve real-life problems.

Make Your Mark

Students completing the Software Development program at the EACC will be prepared to begin a career in technology immediately or pursue further education for advanced roles. Students who complete the EACC program can enter the workforce in roles such as Junior Software Developer, Cloud Support Associate, Junior Data Analyst, or AWS Cloud Developer.

During their two years at the EACC, Software Development students will have the opportunity to earn 18 college credits through dual enrollment at Ivy Tech Community College, at no charge to the student/family and by simply successfully completing the EACC program.

Students who complete the program will have the opportunity to complete the Certified Associate Python Programming test, as well as various AWS Associate Certifications.
